Silly Media: YouTube on Apple iOS 6 Ain’t Dead
When it comes to YouTube on Apple iOS 6, sometimes bad news is good news. The media is hyping Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) decision not to continue its YouTube app development on iPhones and iPads. But most pundits forgot to mention that the result will be a better — yes, better — user experience for YouTube partners that are building mobile video and mobile chat applications. Here’s why.
The official story: Apple’s license with YouTube has expired, meaning that Apple will no longer write a YouTube app to be pre-installed on iOS 6 devices. The VAR Guy’s reaction: Who cares?
Apple’s YouTube app was lousy and quite limited compared to alternative YouTube apps available for Google Android and other mobile devices.
So going forward, Google — YouTube’s owner — will develop a YouTube app for iOS 6. It will surely be available in Apple’s App Store. Anything less and customers and partners will cry foul.
The net result: Customers and partners are going to get a far better YouTube experience on iOS 6. How exactly is that bad or concerning news?
