Oracle Launches Evolved Communications Application Server
Oracle (ORCL) is making it easier for communications service providers (CSPs) “to create streamlined, all-IP networks to provide new services, faster.”
The Redwood City, California-based hardware and software giant today launched Oracle Communications Evolved Communications Application Server, a solution that could help CSPs deliver Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) services consistently and cost-effectively.
Oracle Communications Evolved Communications Application Server “enables the continuous delivery of highly differentiated VoLTE and VoWi-Fi offerings with the lowest operational cost,” according to the company. It is powered by Oracle Communications Converged Application Server, the company noted, and is industry-standards compliant to ensure IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) core interoperability.
The solution also features:
- Automated deployment capabilities across testing, staging and production environments.
- Drag-and-drop session design center with continuous design-time validation.
- Network function virtualization-enabled environment for VoLTE and VoWi-Fi applications.
- Support for enhanced Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC).
“As LTE networks have emerged, it has become clear that there is need for a platform that delivers standards-based VoLTE and VoWi-Fi services rapidly AND allows for differentiation through simple customization. The service providers also indicated a strong need for SRVCC – the ability to seamlessly hand over calls from an LTE session to a 3G network as subscribers move from an area with LTE coverage to an area without it,” Chris King, Oracle Communications‘ senior director of product marketing, told Talkin’ Cloud. “This new product … answers that need.”

Oracle reported $9.3 billion in total revenues in the third quarter of fiscal 2015 and continues to invest in CSP solutions as well.
For example, Oracle updated its Oracle Communications Rapid Offer Design and Order Delivery solution earlier this month. The company said this solution allows CSPs to accelerate the design and delivery of products, services and bundles.
Liam Maxwell, Oracle Communications’ vice president of products, added that the most recent version of Oracle Communications Rapid Offer Design and Order Delivery features expanded process integration packs to help CSPs “get to the next level of productivity.”
