MobileSpaces is looking to give enterprise Android users on-demand access to their workspace virtual private networks (VPN) with the release of MobileSpaces 3.0. The solution expands upon the company’s pre-existing mobile VPN software for iOS to allow users secure access to their company files from their Android devices.
With the release of MobileSpaces 3.0, users are able to access Microsoft (MSFT) Lync, SharePoint and other enterprise applications from SAP (SAP), Oracle (ORCL) and IBM (IBM), according to the company. Devices running MobileSpaces 3.0 will connect to the mobile network automatically once the app is activated.
“MobileSpaces 3.0 provides an app-agnostic security container that gives BYOD users instant and secure connectivity to corporate services and applications via the existing VPN,” said David Goldschlag, CEO and co-founder of MobileSpaces, in a prepared statement. “Security containers without this capability limit user activity to basic services such as email. Seamless and secure VPN access for personal mobile devices is the last puzzle piece needed to unlock the productivity potential of BYOD strategies.”
With a majority of last year’s smartphone shipments consisting of Android-powered devices, MobileSpaces believes the new app expands its reach in the enterprise significantly. The technology combines Apple’s iOS 7 app management capabilities with proprietary App Virtualization technology for Android, creating trusted containers for any mobile app on the device, according to the company.
By giving users of both operating systems on-demand VPN access using client certificate authentication, MobileSpaces is looking to even the odds between enterprise iOS and Android users. Per-app connectivity is also granularly controlled via policy to provide flexible VPN connectivity to data center services and prevent malware attacks from users’ personal apps. The solution is available now for download.
