Laplink Software Image Assistant: For Windows 7 Migrations?
Laplink Software, the data migration solution vendor we previously discussed here, today launches the PCmover Image Assistant, a solution that can restore a disk image (or the contents of an actual hard drive) to a machine running a completely different operating system. Here’s how Laplink partners can benefit.
By acting as a companion to existing disk imaging solutions, you can restore data from a computer running Microsoft Windows XP to one that already has Windows 7 preinstalled without losing the new operating system or any data, according to Laplink Software’s press release. They call it “operating system independent restore.”
As long as the image can be read by the Windows File System and the new computer is properly pathed, users have complete selectivity over what’s restored. Its most major selling point is that it’s supposed to make it a snap to upgrade to Windows 7, either by choice or because a laptop from 2004 finally packed up on you and you need a current model.
While there are no details on PCmover Image Assistant pricing for Laplink Software resellers, the MSRP is set at $39.95. And I’m sure I don’t need to tell the channel at large how valuable a Windows 7 migration tool like this could be to customers, especially in the SMB space.
