HP Launches Cloud Management Solution for Mobile Devices
Has Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) taken a small step forward to capitalizing on managed services with its most recent cloud-based management solution? We're not too sure. The company's release didn't make any mention of managed services providers (MSPs) — only IT administrators. The company recently launched its cloud-based management solution under its HP Enterprise Services division, expanding its HP Converged Cloud portfolio, to enable access to applications and data from any mobile device. Here's the scoop.
According to the company, HP Enterprise Cloud Services – Mobility offers IT administrators the following abilities:
- deploy tools and services for secure application access, file storage, and sharing for various mobile platforms and devices;
- designate security policies and access controls to protect corporate assets, applications, and data;
- configure cloud file storage that can scale up and down; and
- provide local storage options that address data sovereignty and compliance requirements.
“Mobility in the workplace continues to be a key focus and concern for IT executives,” said HP Enterprise Services Senior Vice President Pete Karolczak said in a statement. “HP Enterprise Cloud Services – Mobility leverages HP’s strong cloud portfolio by providing clients with a mobility service that provides the highest level of user experience and productivity while minimizing risk for IT.”
The company also said the solution allows users to download approved enterprise applications from a secure storefront, upload files to support collaboration, and synchronize files between the HP cloud infrastructure and any mobile device. The data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
The solution is available globally with a set of service features and options.
