First Look: Google “Android” Mobile Phone Software
The VAR Guy certainly loves his iPhone. But he’s keeping a close eye on Google’s open source operating system for mobile phones, called Android. If Google plays its cards right, Android could be the operating system that allows dual-mode VoIP phones to flourish. Here’s a first-look at Android, directly from Google.
Wow! I was waiting for the Neo1973 to become the great source of free software in the Cell Phone industry, but it looks like this will introduce some great competition.
I like how they recognize and encourage (with funding) open source developers to make applications for the phones. It truly looks like open source has a very very bright future in phones.
This is some AMAZING stuff.
I like that Google follows a transparent development approach with opening its software to people. It’s funny to see how modern the Google philosophy is compared to what is still happening at Microsoft. Good to see some serious competition.
That way, in the end, the customer will finally benefit.
