Verizon Poised to Launch Samsung, Amazon Tablets
Verizon Wireless is gearing up to launch four new tablets – two from Amazon and two from Samsung – if the rumor mill is to be believed. If this comes to fruition, it would mark the first time that a wireless carrier has sold Amazon tablets.
It’s been previously reported that Verizon is preparing to sell 4G/LTE versions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8-inch and 10-inch, but the addition of the 7-inch and 8.9-inch Amazon Kindle Fire HDXs would be significant, Android Headlines noted, citing a supposed leak on @evleaks. No carrier has ever sold Amazon’s tablets before, although the Seattle-based retail giant does sell them with Verizon network compatibility.
Amazon sells the 7-inch for $300 and the 8.9-inch for $494, but no word yet on pricing with Big Red.
We’ll keep an eye out to see if this winds up happening and if Amazon then strikes deals with the other major carriers.
