Sprint is reportedly ready to launch One Up, a program in which customers can upgrade their devices after a year without breaking their contracts. The implementation of this program would make Sprint the last major U.S. carrier to offer an early upgrade program.

Sprint One Up is similar to T-Mobile’s Jump, AT&T’s Next and Verizon’s Edge program. None of the programs requires users to wait until their contract period is up to be considered eligible for a new phone, CNET noted. Plans such as Sprint One Up allow customers to buy a phone in installments and then upgrade after a year by trading in their old device.

One Up works with Sprint’s Unlimited, My Way or All-In plans and offers a $15 discount. The plan comes with unlimited talk, text and data for just $65 a month.

“Sprint has been tweaking its plans this summer, starting with multi-line/family discounts and its lifetime guarantee of unlimited data for customers opting in now,” said Rich Karpinski, Yankee Group senior analyst. “Following up now with an early upgrade plan is an obvious next step. Such plans are good for operators because they trade one lock-in (two year contracts and early termination fees) for a more seemingly customer favorable one.”

Sprint One Up is set to launch September 20.
