Ramos Could Resurrect Dual-Boot Tablet with i10
Just when we thought that the dual-boot tablet was no more, new information has brought the device screaming back to life.
Just when we thought that the dual-boot tablet was no more, new information has brought the device screaming back to life.
Ramos last week unveiled several new tablets, including one running both Microsoft (MSFT) Windows and Google (GOOG) Android. According to The Digital Reader, the Ramos i10 pro was originally announced in January and will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Windows 8.1 on a quad-core Intel Bay Trail chip. Sound familiar?
The Chinese mobile company’s mystery device is eerily similar to the supposedly cancelled Asus TD300 hybrid tablet, which was allegedly put on ice after both Windows and Google asked Asus to stay away from dual-boot devices. According to an interview in the Wall Street Journal and a previous rumor about Google, the project was canned due to mutual discontent between both companies on working together in the tablet market.
The Ramos i10 is also expected sport a 10-inch screen with 1920×1200 resolution, and will ship with 2GB of Ram, 32GB of flash storage and a pair of cameras (2MP and 5MP). Accordign to The Digital Reader article, the device also will have Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth, and willcome bundled with an SD card that adds support for 3G. The device is expected to launch in China this week for 2699 Yuan ($434).
By this point, dual-boot tablets are more on-again, off-again than Ross and Rachel from Friends. It seems that with every passing week, new rumors surface on the fate of the much-hyped device. At this point, it’s difficult to tell who is telling the truth or if any of this is merely speculation and conjecture. Last week, PC Magazine announced that Huawei has abandoned its plans for a dual-boot smartphone, but it seems that at least one dual-boot device is still in the works from Karbonn.
Neither Microsoft nor Google have said anything in regards to the Ramos tablet, which makes this story even harder to follow. So will there be a dual-boot tablet after all? It seems like it. Do we know for sure either way? Absolutely not.
