PlatinumTel Sues EZ Stream, U.S. Mobile for False Advertising
Prepaid provider PlatinumTel is suing U.S. Mobile and EZ Stream, alleging false advertising, violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and violations of the Illinois Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act in connection with prepaid wireless services.
“This is a case where consumers are being taken advantage of by a wireless company. PlatinumTel feels it is our responsibility to call out and fight against this consumer fraud,” says Omar Abhari, SVP of operations at PlatinumTel. “PlatinumTel is entirely transparent in our plans and policies and want consumers to know that.”
PlatinumTel alleges that the defendants’ false advertising significantly and routinely misrepresents the minutes available under their prepaid wireless programs sold to consumers, and in making these allegations, seeks to protect consumers from abuse. PlatinumTel recently obtained a default judgment against U.S. Mobile that is scheduled for damages prove up later this month. While the case remains ongoing against EZ Stream, PlatinumTel has also filed a motion to default EZ Stream due to its failure to comply with discovery.
