Business users and general consumers who have been waiting for the next monster Android smartphone from Google-owned Motorola Mobility might have to hold on just a little longer than once thought.
The Libertyville, Ill.-based company was expected to host an event on Thursday for the unveiling of the Motorola X, its new flagship device that potentially packs quite a punch: a 1.7GHz, dual-core processor; a 10MP rear-facing camera that shoots well in low light; a 2MP front-facing lens; and a number of sensors that help the phone recognize its location in your pocket, in an airplane, etc.
But alas, Motorola says there will be no such event; it was nothing more than a misunderstanding over what an online ad portended, Ubergizmo reported.
Now that doesn’t mean the X won’t be here soon. We still expect an announcement within the next couple of weeks, as most industry speculation has surrounded a release date in July. All major U.S. carriers Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are expected to carry the phone.
It’s setting up to be a big second half of the year for Motorola. The DROID Ultra, the Ultra MAXX and Ultra M are all potential devices from the manufacturer.
