MobileIron (MOBL) is helping enterprises to protect corporate information with the release of its updated [email protected] secure content hub, which protects business documents stored in a user’s personal cloud. The solution is designed to give enterprise users the freedom to use their personal cloud storage accounts while ensuring that important information remains secure.
Rather than try to stop employees from downloading and using their favorite personal cloud apps, MobileIron believes in giving users protection for whichever storage repository works best for them. The company’s [email protected] app is MobileIron’s first step in simplifying security problems associated with users storing enterprise data on their personal cloud applications.
“The personal cloud has really become the center of our digital lives,” said Ojas Rege, vice president of Strategy at MobileIron, in an interview with The VAR Guy. “The challenge here is that this also means that individuals want to use the personal cloud for work. As a result, it becomes the single most important security challenge that faces the enterprise today.”
The updated [email protected] is MobileIron’s foray into the first phase of this process. Several key features with the latest version include the ability to connect natively to popular cloud services including Microsoft Office 365, Dropbox and Box, while allowing users to search, view, download and save documents across their preferred on-premise and cloud repositories, according to the company. Users can also edit documents both locally on the device and via an integrated browser.
“The personal cloud needs to be at the very core part of the information architecture of the organization, said Rege. “If you have a poor user experience you’re not going to get adoption. The user experience is really the litmus test for user adoption of any service in the mobile enterprise.”
Rege stressed that [email protected] is just the first part of the MobileIron’s continuing efforts to fully secure the personal cloud. [email protected] is available now for iPad, iPhone and Android tablets and smartphones, while additional security solutions for the upcoming MobileIron Content Security Platform are expected to be unveiled within the next several months.
