You might file this one in the back of the rumor file, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

According to a “trusted source” on Chinese blog site Weibo, Motorola is working on a smartphone with the working title “Droid Quantum,” G for Games reported. It’s supposedly the successor to the Motorola Droid Ultra, available in the U.S. through Verizon Wireless.

The same source also said that Motorola is planning to introduce a smartphone-tablet hybrid (phablet) known as “Xplay.” It will feature a huge, 6.3-inch display. Big-screen phones have become all the rage lately. Sony, Samsung and others have recently broken the six-inch barrier, and Nokia and HTC are said to be coming out with one soon.

Look for the Xplay and the Quantum to make their debuts next year if the source is correct. Maybe we’ll see them at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
