Managed Mobility Services: How Does Your MSP Measure Up?

Gartner’s (IT) put out a new Magic Quadrant report about mobility. This one looks at Managed Mobility Services. MSPmentor has covered mobile device management and mobile application management, including Gartner’s assessment of vendors in those functional areas. Now that the IT analyst firm has released this MMS report (check out MSPmentor’s coverage here), we wondered what it meant to the managed services market.

Gartner defines managed mobility services as follows: “MMS are generally consumed as bundled IT and process services in conjunction with mobility management software (inclusive of MDM software).” Gartner breaks MMS down into the following six categories: sourcing and logistics management, mobile service management, device and system management application and messaging management, security and content management and program and financial management.

Where MDM focuses on vendor solutions – for instance, Airwatch, MobileIron and Fiberlink were among the vendors included in the MDM Magic Quadrant – MMS focuses on bundled services to help customer businesses manage, secure and make the most out of mobile technology. This means managing devices like the new iPhone 5s (if it does indeed come out on Sept. 10). It also means managing the whole host of services that come with those devices.

So the question is, does your managed services provider business offer all those components of MMS as listed by Gartner from sourcing and logistics (do you sell them the device?) to mobile service management (do you handle the telecom contracts?). What components do you offer? Do you consider the companies in the Gartner MMS Magic Quadrant report to be competitors?
