Two telecommunications heavyweights will work together to develop various enterprise communications and technology services.

Huawei yesterday announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a new strategic alliance with Vodafone Global Enterprise (VOD). Under the agreement, the companies will focus on creating new services for the enterprise market in Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa.

Specific areas of cooperation between Huawei and Vodafone initially will include:

  • Creating cloud data center and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

  • The development of new machine-to-machine module designs.

  • The use of Huawei’s fixed and mobile connectivity bonding technology for new products.

  • Examining the opportunities for in-building coverage solutions.

Yan Lida, president of Huawei’s enterprise business group, added that the partnership could help both companies transform the information and communications technology (ICT) industry.

“Now, many enterprises realize that technology-led transformation is necessary for companies to stay competitive and improve operational efficiency and performance,” he said in a prepared statement. “We aim to carry out joint innovations, integrate our ICT expertise and global resources [and] help customers cope with challenges and opportunities brought by the new industrial revolution.”

Huawei and Vodafone previously collaborated in joint innovations in enterprise technology. Together, the companies worked in several areas to deliver a branch enablement project in Asia and hosting and cloud solution in South Africa.
