Google Nexus Tablet at Google I/O Conference? (Safe Bet: Yes)
One week after Microsoft unveiled its Surface tablet, Google might unveil its own Nexus tablet at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco. If so, Google Nexus will become the latest example of a technology company controlling hardware and software to offer an integrated mobile system. But will Google Apps Authorized Resellers be empowered to sell Nexus tablets to business customers? Here again, the safe bet is yes. Here’s why.
Multiple pundits suggest Nexus will support Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a 1280×800 display, A Tegra 3 processor, WiFi, Google Wallet and NFC. The seven-inch display device apparently will cost $199 to $249. Keep a particularly close eye on NFC (Near Field Communication) — a standard that could ease mobile electronic payments.
All Google I/O 2011 attendees received a Google Chromebook. The VAR Guy wonders: Will all 2012 attendees receive a Google Nexus? Hmmm… Too soon to say.
But it’s a safe bet Google will offer the Nexus tablet through channel partners. Some of Google’s top channel partners already offer Chromebooks into the education and business markets. Those same partners will surely find vertical market opportunities for Nexus tablets — if in fact, they soon exist.
