Can DaaS Solve BYOD Issues? Survey Says Yes
Bring your own device (BYOD) remains a top security concern among CIOs and many have considered desktop as a service (DaaS) as a solution, according to a new survey by from managed cloud services provider NaviSite.
While 80 percent of the survey's IT decision makers claimed that BYOD is the way to go, only 45 percent admitted to having a BYOD policy in place, while 51 percent were considering desktop-as-a-service DaaS as a solution to access data from mobile devices.
Only 18 percent admitted that BYOD was the true motivator to switching to DaaS, but 42 percent said employee demand is driving the need for DaaS, considering that 29 percent of the global workforce operates from multiple locations.
NaviSite Product Management Vice President Chris Patterson said in a prepared statement that the survey showcases the evolution of thinking around the challenges of BYOD.
"When you add the growth of mobile and remote workforces, now there’s an even greater need to make sure workers can access the information they need when they need it, regardless of device," he said. "Desktop as a service is a really simple way for IT executives to have increased control over corporate intellectual property while providing more flexibility for today’s workforce demands."
