BlackBerry to Acquire EMM Software Provider Good Technology
BlackBerry (BBRY) will add an enterprise mobility management (EMM) software provider to its portfolio.
The mobile communications company has announced an agreement to acquire Good Technology for $425 million.
So what will the acquisition mean for BlackBerry? Good Technology is aligned with BlackBerry’s strategy to offer customers “the most complete, end-to-end solution that secures the entire mobile enterprise, across all platforms,” according to BlackBerry.
In addition, BlackBerry said Good Technology will bring complementary capabilities and technologies to BlackBerry, including applications and containerization.
“By acquiring Good (Technology), BlackBerry will better solve one of the biggest struggles for CIOs today, especially those in regulated industries: securely managing devices across any platform,” BlackBerry CEO John Chen said in a prepared statement. “Like BlackBerry, Good has a very strong presence in enterprises and governments around the world and, with this transaction, BlackBerry will enhance its sales and distribution capabilities and further grow its enterprise software revenue stream.”
The Good Technology transaction to be completed toward the end of the BlackBerry’s 2016 fiscal third quarter, BlackBerry said, and is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
Good Technology represents yet another addition to BlackBerry’s EMM portfolio.
BlackBerry in April reached an agreement to acquire WatchDox to “give enterprises unmatched control over their files even after data leaves the corporate network.”
