In the face of fierce competition among prepaid and low-cost wireless operators, AT&T-owned Cricket has made a bold move to try and prove its worth over up-and-coming T-Mobile and subsidiary MetroPCS.

Cricket is giving a $100 credit to new customers who transfer from the Magenta Network or MetroPCS. That includes a $5 discount through Cricket’s auto-pay rewards system. The $100 transfer credit could cover up to two months of new customer service.

“We give consumers straightforward, affordable pricing, offer nationwide 4G LTE coverage, and reward their loyalty. And for the next few weeks, we’ll give them a $100 bill credit to see it for themselves,” said Janna Ducich, Cricket’s vice president and chief marketing officer.

New customers get what the company calls the “Cricket Wireless experience,” which includes a free smartphone every year with the Cricket Rewards program; plans starting at $35 per month; no annual contracts; and more LTE coverage than T-Mobile and MetroPCS via AT&T’s network.

The offer is good through Oct. 19.
