AT&T (T) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have joined forces to extend the reach of AT&T’s NetBond network-enabled cloud solution.

The companies are working together to bring NetBond to AWS, which will enable AT&T customers to scale their network at the same rate as their enterprise-class applications running on the AWS Cloud.   

“Our customers want the computing power and cost-efficiency that cloud services deliver, with the best security and performance,” Jon Summers, senior vice president of AT&T mobile and business solutions, said in a prepared statement. “AWS’s extensive portfolio combined with AT&T NetBond offers them the best of both worlds.”

The AT&T-AWS partnership also could provide “a big win” for customers.

“This alliance continues AT&T’s strategy to offer end-to-end, on-demand cloud services to our customers,” an AT&T spokesperson told Talkin’ Cloud. “We know one cloud doesn’t fit all, which is why we are creating an ecosystem of cloud services providers … to provide choice to our customers. Combining the power of the AT&T network with the leading cloud services providers is a big win for our customers.”

What is NetBond?

Customers can use NetBond to leverage their virtual private networks (VPNs) to connect to any cloud or IT service environment in AT&T’s partner ecosystem.

AT&T noted NetBond bypasses the Internet entirely to provide “secure and seamless access to enterprise applications and data.”

NetBond customers will be able to access business applications and information that are stored in AWS, AT&T said. Summers also pointed out customers “will have VPN performance, full cloud networking automation and flexible and secure bandwidth when accessing AWS cloud services.”

“The addition of AWS broadens AT&T’s already expansive NetBond ecosystem and will give customers highly secure, reliable and on-demand connections to another key public cloud services provider,” added Melanie Posey, research vice president at market intelligence firm International Data Corp (IDC). “This pairing of AT&T’s VPN with AWS’s leading cloud platform will likely serve as a game-changer for enterprises, prompting accelerated adoption of cloud services.”

AT&T said it expects the AWS-NetBond integrated solution to be available next year.
