Has the Android 4.4 KitKat craving started?

So, Google’s (GOOG) Sundar Pichai sort of says Android 4.4 will be called KitKat. Some chocolate lovers wonder if Nestle (owner of KitKat chocolate treats) will object. But take a closer look, folks: Nestle is actually partnering with Google on the Android 4.4 KitKat name. Why should channel partners care?

Amid all the noise about Apple iPhone 5S and iOS 7 as well as Microsoft buying Nokia’s cellphone business, Google has once again stolen the market buzz. Indeed, Google has found a creative way to;

  • Generate noise virally;

  • Ride the consumerization of IT wave;

  • Blend a geek brand with a mainstream consumer brand; and

  • Rally the Android developer ecosystem around the Next Big Release.

Over in the land of Microsoft-Nokia (Windows Phone 8), BlackBerry (buyers wanted) and maybe even Apple (iOS 7 concerns, anyone?), perhaps the mobile world can continue to learn more and more from Google and the Android faithful.

About the only thing left to wonder: When will Google actually release Android 4.4 for mass consumption? Judging by its KitKat name, perhaps Easter 2014 (the consumer version, with the chocolate-serving bunny) or Halloween 2014 would be ideal…

Of course, The VAR Guy offers those dates tongue in cheek… and with arms outstretched for just a little taste of what’s to come.
