With expectations of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) selling tens of millions of units of its new iPhone 5 just within the first few weeks, managed service providers (MSPs) are faced with the task of making sure their mobile device management (MDM) platform is ready for the new device. Plenty of MDM vendors have already announced support for iOS 6 and iPhone 5. We're guessing that more will soon follow suit, given the popularity of Apple's new device..
The following vendors are ahead of the pack in announcing support for Apple's new solutions:
- BoxTone appears to be among the first MDM companies to announce support iPhone 5 and iOS 6. The company has also designed a partner program for MSPs to assist customers with BYOD.
- Fiberlink offered its MaaS360 customers instant access to new features to support the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 a few days ago. The company says that its solution is different from other MDM solutions primarily due to the fact that other companies require their customers to plan maintenance outage windows and manually update servers.
- SOTI Inc. recently offered support for Apple's new iPhone 5 and iOS 6 devices for its MobiControl solution. MobiControl enables organizations to manage iPhone 5 and iOS 6 devices, application deployments and device usage based on pre-defined enterprise policies.
Just how big a deal is the release of Apple's lastest phone? Aerohive Networks CEO David Flynn provided this perspective on that and how this new device will offer unique benefits and challenges:
"The release of the iPhone 5 marks a big day not just for consumers, but for businesses as well. Analysts predict Apple will ship over 27 million units in Q3 2012 alone, but more importantly the advanced Wi-Fi included in the iPhone 5 will accelerate enterprise adoption of BYOD policies. The inclusion of 5 Ghz Wi-Fi alone will have a huge impact on the reliability of wireless communication in hospitals, schools, retail stores and just about any organization leveraging Wi-Fi for business critical applications. Enterprises will need to make sure they have the proper network infrastructure in place to take advantage of these advancements, while ensuring company data remains secure."Stay tuned to MSPmentor for more coverage of iPhone 5, MDM vendors that support it and how it will impact businesses.
