Gartner: Consumer Brands' Mobile Apps Add Payment Options

Consumer brands will integrate payment into their branded mobile apps by 2015. Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT), a research firm, released its latest report to explain how this trend will unfold in the next three years. Be ready: Mobile device management (MDM) will play a vital role. Here are the details.

In the report, Predicts 2013: Businesses Will Take Consumer Apps to the Next Level, the research firm highlighted the key predictions for consumer apps in 2013 and beyond. MDM vendors may find significant security issues with the integration of payment into branded mobile apps. For instance: will the addition of payment options make these apps more likely to land on app blacklists ?

Most likely not, but it raises an interesting concern for managed services providers (MSPs). An increase in payment integration for branded mobile apps may become a security concern for providers. Will brands have a way to manage the increase in devices with these apps? Mobile application management (MAM) and mobile device management will cross paths in the upcoming years.

Also in the report, more than half of consumers will use digital cloud services as their primary form of storage for digital content by 2016 and most pay-TV operators in developed markets will have launched "pay-TV as an app" on smart TVs.
