ViaWest Acquires Consulting Firm AppliedTrust

ViaWest, a North American hybrid cloud and colocation solutions provider, has acquired IT consulting firm AppliedTrust for an undisclosed sum.

The agreement provides ViaWest with 100 percent interest in AppliedTrust, and is expected to help the company broaden its portfolio of services and capabilities as it strives to become a leader in North American IT services, said Nancy Phillips, chief executive officer of ViaWest. The acquisition is also expected to provide the company with ways to future-proof their IT platforms and expand DevOps for customers.

“Combining with AppliedTrust allows us to provide customers with deep expertise that addresses their most pressing security and compliance needs, while keeping up with innovation and time to market,” said Phillips, in a statement. “This expertise is backed by ViaWest’s rich hybrid capabilities spanning cloud, managed services and colocation.”

AppliedTrust is known for its security, compliance, DevOps and infrastructure consulting services for both enterprise and government customers. The company’s capabilities are expected to provide ViaWest platform users with the ability to enable secure hybrid services by utilizing IT assessment, migration, compliance consulting and application support, according to the announcement.

Although a specific closing date was not announced, officials from ViaWest and AppliedTrust hope to finalize the transaction as soon as possible.

“DevOps and Security are among our customers’ most pressing concerns,” said Ned McClain, co-CEO of AppliedTrust. “ViaWest and AppliedTrust share the belief that performance, availability and security of systems and networks are critical to an organization, so we have made these our core competencies.”

Last year, Shaw Communications acquired ViaWest for $1.2 billion, in an effort to boost the telecom Canadian telecom company’s efforts in the data services and cloud markets.
