NetApp is acquiring CloudCheckr, a cloud optimization platform that provides cloud visibility and insights to lower costs, maintain security and compliance, and optimize cloud resources.

This acquisition extends Spot by NetApp’s financial operations by combining cost visibility and reporting from the CloudCheckr platform with continuous cost optimization and managed services from Spot by NetApp.

Bringing these capabilities together will enable organizations to better understand and improve their cloud resources. They’ll also realize the benefits of cloud faster.

NetApp didn’t disclose financial details of the acquisition.

Enhancing Spot by NetApp

NetApp continues to invest in Spot by NetApp as a core component of its cloud strategy. The acquisition of CloudCheckr complements and expands the Spot by NetApp portfolio. It creates a suite of CloudOps services, and builds on the company’s recent acquisition of Data Mechanics.

With CloudCheckr, the Spot by NetApp portfolio will offer cost visibility, analytics, management and optimization. It will help enterprises and MSPs continuously control their cloud infrastructure resources.

Amiram Shachar is vice president and general manager of Spot by NetApp.

“This acquisition provides our partners the ability to offer customers a leadership portfolio of products for operating in the cloud,” he said. “Partners will be able to offer a FinOps solution that provides both top-down visibility and analytics of cloud costs, as well as the automation that operations teams need to continuously optimize those costs. In addition, they’ll be able to have more strategic conversations about CloudOps because of their ability to support cost management, security, reporting and billing analytics needs.”

Key Cloud Challenges

This acquisition helps NetApp address key cloud challenges at a time when they’ve become critical priorities for customers, Shachar said.

“Overall, the CloudCheckr and Spot products are highly complementary,” he said.

Once the acquisition closes, NetApp will share more details about opportunities for partners of both companies, Shachar said.

Tim McKinnon is CloudCheckr‘s CEO.

“The combination of Spot by NetApp and CloudCheckr will create a suite of highly complementary and synergistic multicloud infrastructure management solutions for our customers and partners,” he said “The CloudCheckr team is thrilled to be joining NetApp, and to help advance the company’s leadership in the FinOps space.”
