IBM Acquires Sanovi to Bolster Business Continuity in the Cloud

IBM has signed an agreement to acquire an Indian provider of cloud recovery and business continuity software Sanovi Technologies. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

IBM said the addition of Sanovi’s orchestration technology to IBM’s existing resiliency portfolio will help to simplify and automate the disaster recovery process. Eventually IBM plans to leverage Watson Analytics to expand the capabilities of Sanovi’s Disaster Recovery Management (DRM).

The news comes as IBM is hosting its World of Watson event in Las Vegas. IBM sees broad applicability for Watson artificial intelligence, with IBM CEO Ginni Rometty describing “a future in which all enterprises will add artificial intelligence to help automate business processes, improve productivity and increase sales.”

The acquisition of Sanovi is expected to close by the end of 2016 when IBM will integrate the Sanovi capabilities into the IBM Global Technology Services unit.

"Our clients are embracing a digitized world where applications need to be ‘always-on,’” Martin Jetter, Senior Vice President, Global Technology Services, IBM said in a statement. “As a cloud-native company, Sanovi will strengthen our resiliency portfolio to manage the broad range of applications, data, and IT systems of our clients balancing digital and hybrid cloud transformation with increased regulatory compliance.”

Founded in 2003, Sanovi is headquartered in Bangalore, India, with offices in the U.S., Middle East, and Asia.

“IBM’s technology leadership in hybrid cloud infrastructure and resiliency services makes it a clear choice to bring end-to-end services to our customers and transformational value to IBM’s existing client base,” Chandra Sekhar Pulamarasetti, Co-Founder & CEO of Sanovi said. “Together, we will provide next-generation resiliency solutions for robust hybrid cloud deployments across the globe."
