FireMon, a network security policy management (NSPM) provider, has acquired DisruptOps, a SaaS-based cloud detection and response platform.

FireMon’s Jody Brazil

In addition, Jody Brazil, one of the FireMon’s original founders, will return as CEO of the combined entity. After leaving FireMon in late 2017, he founded and built DisruptOps. It enables security and development teams to find, understand and fix critical cloud security issues.

Adding the DisruptOps platform immediately extends FireMon’s solutions to include monitoring and responding to security risks across customers’ public cloud infrastructure.

Acquisition Made ‘Perfect Sense’

“With the acceleration of public cloud adoption, the combination of DisruptOps with FireMon made perfect sense,” Brazil said. “DirsuptOps is able to deliver cloud security answers for FireMon customers along their various stages of cloud transition. Therefore, as FireMon looked to expand beyond NSPM and into the broader security space, security operations in the cloud was a natural fit.”

DisruptOps monitors, alerts and responds to risk across public cloud providers including AWS, Azure, and coming soon to Google Cloud.

“When we founded FireMon, we set out to improve security outcomes by improving security operations,” Brazil said. “This mission still holds true today. However, the landscape is changing. As FireMon customers transition from traditional data centers to the cloud, they will require a security operations platform that can help them to manage this increasing complexity. Because this is where we’re focused, FireMon partners will have many new opportunities to help their customers achieve better security outcomes right away and as they accelerate their move to the cloud.”

FireMon’s partners are trusted advisors to some of the world’s largest enterprises, he said.

“They have complex, dynamic IT infrastructure and a growing slate of security concerns,” Brazil said. “And their issues are expanding as they increase their reliance on public cloud infrastructure. The combination of FireMon and DisruptOps gives our partners the ability to help their customers in the areas they need most, reducing complexity and improving their security posture.”

‘Huge Positive’ for Partners

FireMon is the only 100% channel company in its category, and “we see this combination as a huge positive for the partner ecosystem overall,” Brazil said. The solutions are highly complementary. Moreover, they give partners the ability to help their customers solve a much wider array of security concerns.

The DisruptOps platform will be available from FireMon and any of its hundreds of authorized resellers worldwide.

Aaron Turner is chief security officer at Highside.io.

“DisruptOps has helped our DevOps teams solve security problems before going into production, essentially adding a security engineer to each of our teams at a fraction of the cost,” he said. “The combination of Firemon’s experience combined with DisruptOps’ innovation will help us even more down the road.”
