FireEye is adding cloud workload security capabilities to its Helix offering with the acquisition of Cloudvisory, which provides continuous visibility, compliance and security policy governance solutions for multicloud and data center assets.

With the addition of Cloudvisory, FireEye will offer customers one integrated security operations platform for cloud and container security. The acquisition closed on Jan. 17 and financial terms weren’t disclosed.

FireEye’s Martin Holste

Martin Holste, FireEye’s CTO of cloud security, tells us customers are coming to partners asking for cloud solutions, creating several opportunities for the channel.

“FireEye continues to enable our partners to provide solutions to secure their customers’ cloud environments,” he said. “The Cloudvisory solution operates across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, OpenStack and VMWare, as well as traditional virtualized and bare metal environments, and is immediately available for channel partners to sell. Through this continuous visibility in the cloud, channel partners are able help their customers better manage and protect environments.”

With this acquisition, FireEye now directly competes with solutions such as RedLock and Dome9, so customers can consolidate their security vendor choices to stay within the FireEye product portfolio, Holste said.

Mike Sapien, Ovum’s vice president and chief analyst of enterprise services, tells us the acquisition is a good fit to get FireEye into multicloud and container management with its security platform. Customers are asking for one interface/portal to manage their cloud workloads and get visibility, he said.

“FireEye has been slow to get into cloud-based security and [this] gets them further along on their own,” he said. “Cloudvisory seems to have done all the hard work integrating with the major cloud providers already, which saves FireEye a lot of time in developing these relationships and cloud service integration work.”

By extending Helix with Cloudvisory, customers can implement security and governance policies for their cloud and container platforms based on FireEye’s knowledge of attackers’ tools and techniques. Cloudvisory delivers visibility and allows security administrators to apply controls using a point-and-click interface.

“Joining FireEye offers Cloudvisory a unique opportunity to combine our innovative approach to cloud visibility and FireEye’s unrivaled insights into the threat landscape,” said Lisun Kung, Cloudvisory‘s co-founder and CEO prior to the acquisition. “We’re excited by the potential to quickly scale and help more organizations secure their cloud and container workloads.”
