Cloud data protection supplier eFolder today announced it has acquired Cloudfinder, a company that provides information backup, search, retrieval and reporting services for Office 365, Google Apps and Salesforce.

eFolder said it plans to use Cloudfinder technology with its dedicated IT channel distribution.

The company also will leverage Cloudfinder’s petabyte-scale infrastructure and economies of scale to “disrupt and accelerate the cloud application data protection market.”

Cloud services providers (CSPs), managed service providers (MSPs) and value-added resellers (VARs) could benefit from the transaction, according to eFolder.

“Locally and in the cloud, eFolder now offers the most comprehensive suite of business continuity services sold exclusively to the IT channel,” Ted Hulsy, eFolder’s vice president of marketing, said in a prepared statement. “eFolder partners can take advantage of synergies that exist in the eFolder product portfolio, including local backup, cloud backup, backup and disaster recovery (BDR), cloud file sync and now Cloudfinder.”

eFolder CEO Kevin Hoffman noted his company is empowering its partners to deliver lucrative managed backup and support for customers that have migrated to the cloud.

“Unfortunately, businesses still face the risk of data loss or downtime in the cloud, since user error, accidental deletion or malicious employees pose risks to business data no matter where it resides. By adding a layer of instant search and business continuity to these mass market business-to-business (B2B) cloud applications through Cloudfinder’s technology, eFolder is empowering partners,” Hoffman said.

Marcus Nyman, Cloudfinder’s CEO, said he believes eFolder shares his company’s vision.

“As we have learned with our existing partner network, cloud computing is not do-it-yourself computing,” Nyman said. “As cloud adoption accelerates, IT channel partners are uniquely positioned to help businesses protect and centralize their cloud data with Cloudfinder. We are pleased to be joining eFolder, a company that shares our vision of the future.”

Nyman and the Cloudfinder team will join eFolder as part of the acquisition.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
