Docker is building out its technology's capabilities through acquisition again. This time, Docker has acquired Koality, a developer of a continuous integration solution that its new owner will integrate with the Docker Hub Enterprise product initiative.

Through the acquisition of Koality, Docker will use its new property's team and technology to accelerate the Hub Enterprise product's development. Docker Hub Enterprise is being designed to enable enterprise IT teams working on distributed applications to collaborate on modular components while also maintaining them in a private software repository behind the firewall.

"As we surveyed our ecosystem to see how our technology partners were helping enterprises build distributed applications, Koality stood out in terms of its flexibility to integrate in with existing toolchains and processes while delivering practical, intuitive solutions around the application development lifecycle," said Ben Golub, CEO of Docker, in a prepared statement. "As an added bonus, the members of the Koality team came out of Palantir, and also acquired a sensitivity for the issues facing some of the most security conscious organizations in the world."

This isn't Docker's first contact with Koality, though. The two companies have collaborated for a while, in particular through the Docker community. According to Docker, Koality's technology is being used extensively within the Docker community to "significantly shrink continuous integration cycles." Koality provides its users with a toolset that was designed to simplify workflow complexity around managing software versioning, upgrading and updating.

The integration of both the Koality team and technology has already begun; and it should be a boost for Docker Hub, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering that provides developers and sysadmins with a central resource to share applications, collaborate with communities and internal workgroups, create new images and automate application lifecycle workflows.

Docker did not disclose the price it paid for Koality.
