Cologix this week said it has acquired a Jacksonville, Florida-based colocation and disaster recovery provider to accelerate its expansion in the region. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The Denver-based provider of network neutral interconnection and data center services said the purchase of Colo5 expands its footprint in Jacksonville with 25,000 square feet of data center and disaster recovery space in a wholly-owned, Class 5 hurricane rated building. Cologix claims it now has the largest collections of enterprise network buyers and network service providers in the region.

The company also gained 100,000 square feet of data center and disaster recovery space in Lakeland, which is located between Tampa and Orlando. Aimed to avoid the possibility of flooding, the space is nearly 20 stories above sea level.

Cologix President and CEO Grant van Rooyen said in a statement that Colo5 has an incredible set of data center operations and an impressive customer base.

“Part of what makes this combination so attractive is the fact that the Colo5 executive team is joining the Cologix team to help steward our continued growth and investment in Florida,” he said. “Together with Doug Recker and his team, we look forward to presenting the respective benefits of this combination to our combined customers.”

“Joining the Cologix platform provides our customers key benefits that we could not have delivered as a standalone company,” said Doug Recker, CEO of Colo5, in a statement.

Cologix said it now serves 850 customers in eight markets and 20 data centers across its North American data center platform.
