Cengage Group Acquiring Infosec for More than $190 Million

  • Written by Edward Gately
  • January 31, 2022
Infosec will join Cengage Group’s ed2go business as part of its workforce skills business.

Cengage Group is shelling out more than $190 million to acquire Infosec, the cybersecurity education provider.

With this acquisition, Cengage Group will expand into the cybersecurity professional training market. In addition, it will increase the size of its rapidly growing workforce skills business.

Cengage Group should complete the acquisition this quarter, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Infosec will join Cengage Group’s ed2go business as part of its workforce skills business. In addition, Cengage will retain and invest in Infosec employees and products to support future growth.

Infosec partners include resellers and MSPs.

Continued Investment In Infosec

Balraj Kalsi is Cengage Group’s senior vice president and general manager of workforce skills.

“There are no planned changes to pricing or level of service at this time,” he said. “In fact, it’s quite the contrary. We will be continuing to invest in the Infosec business, employees and products. With the unique capabilities Cengage offers to scale online learning and customer support, current and new Infosec customers can anticipate an even superior experience. Following close of the deal, more information will be shared with partners and resellers.”

Infosec’s partners have played and will continue to play a key role in the company’s growth, Kalsi said.

“Infosec’s highly rated products, combined with our ability to scale to new markets and channels, means we can expand quality cybersecurity training and help close the critical cybersecurity labor shortage,” he said.

Infosec to Benefit From Cengage Group’s Scale

“Infosec will benefit from the scale Cengage Group provides as a global education and technology company, and its partnerships with thousands of academic institutions across the world,” Kalsi said. “We will be working together to invest in accelerating growth across all of Infosec’s product lines. In fact, Cengage Group recognizes the need that Infosec fills for the cybersecurity industry and we are focused on growing and scaling its highly-rated products across international markets, through accredited academic institutions, and direct to learners and corporations.”

Since its founding in 2004, Infosec has trained more than 100,000 cybersecurity professionals.

With Infosec’s IQ product, enterprise companies obtain thousands of resources for training employees about cyber threats, phishing scams and cyber safety.

Jack Koziol is Infosec‘s CEO and founder.

“Infosec was built by talented employees who truly believe that knowledge is power and care deeply about creating training materials that help cybersecurity professionals advance in their careers, and keep employers and staff aware of cybersecurity threats at home and at work,” he said. “Cengage Group has the same level of passion for making learning accessible, affordable and applicable to today’s cybersecurity professionals. Building on ed2go’s history in online training, Infosec will benefit from Cengage Group’s scale and expertise. [That] means we can reach more cybersecurity professionals and employers that are looking to not only grow their careers, but to keep businesses, governments and people safe from cyber threats.”
