Top MSP Heads to Legal Conference

mindshift_managed_services_providerThe latest evidence that managed service providers are going vertical: MindSHIFT, ranked No. 1 in our most recent MSPmentor 100 report, will descend on the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) 2009 Conference, August 23 near Washington, D.C. Here's why.

During a mindSHIFT visit in Aug. 14, company executives shared with me their current and long-term business strategies. I'll be recapping my mindSHIFT visit in a few blog posts this week.

Through organic growth and acquisitions, mindSHIFT has emerged as a national MSP that also extends globally through SaaS (software as a service). The company's sweet spot typically involves customers with 2o to 400 seats or so.

mindSHIFT focuses on several vertical markets -- with an increasing emphasis on the legal vertical. Hence the company's decision to attend the ILTA 2009 Conference.

The conference will cover some familiar themes: server and desktop virtualization, remote administration, privacy issues, etc. And it's easy to spot several mindSHIFT speakers on the agenda.

Therein is my key point: It's important for MSPs to learn from each other at conferences. But the smartest MSPs also find the time and budget to participate in customer-facing conferences, where small business owners and managers seek technology knowledge they can't find elsewhere.

I'll share more about mindSHIFT's overall business strategy later this week.
