When Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2011 (WPC11) starts July 10 in Los Angeles, it's safe to expect plenty of cloud computing buzz. But there will also be considerable managed services chatter. A case in point: ConnectWise will be on hand to describe recurring revenue business models to VARs and MSPs attending WPC11.
According to Jeannine Edwards, director of community at ConnectWise, the company worked with the Microsoft Office 365 team to develop content that:
- Examines successful and profitable managed service practices;
- Debunks some myths around cloud offerings and positions cloud as simply an extension of what’s included in managed service contracts; and
- Illustrates the power of PSA (professional services automation) and RMM (remote monitoring and management) within managed service practices.
No doubt, Microsoft itself has been poking around the managed services market. Before launching the Windows Intune platform in 2011, Microsoft quietly attended the ConnectWise IT Nation conference in November 2010 to do so research with selected industry analysts, coaches and pundits.
Fast forward to WPC11. Plenty of MSPs -- everyone from Nick Bock of Five Nines Technology Group to Dave Sobel of Evolve Technologies -- will be on hand for WPC11. We'll be poking around to see if Microsoft can connect the dots between managed services and an emerging marketplace for Office 365 applications. And we'll also strive to learn how many VARs and MSPs attending WPC11 have successfully automated their businesses through basic PSA and RMM best practices.
