RightScale Rolls Out Cloud Management, Analytics for vSphere
RightScale has integrated its cloud management and analytics offering with VMware (VMW) vSphere to provide management and analytics across vSphere-based public and private clouds. The RightScale Cloud Appliance for vSphere will be generally available in the second quarter of 2014 and will support vSphere 5.1 and 5.5.

The RightScale Cloud Appliance for vSphere will be generally available in the second quarter of 2014 and will support vSphere 5.1 and 5.5.
The launch of this new appliance follows on the heels of last month’s RightScale announcement regarding the launch of RightScale Cloud Analytics, based on the technology it gained through the acquisition of PlanForCloud.com.
The RightScale Cloud Appliance for vSphere was designed as a lightweight, on-premise virtual appliance that enables IT teams to choose whether to deploy workloads to vSphere or a variety of public and private clouds RightScale currently supports. The virtual appliance provides more portability for applications, and according to RightScale, workloads can be shifted from cloud to cloud seamlessly.
“Our enterprise customers want to combine public and private cloud resources with their existing vSphere environments to expand cloud adoption,” said Thorsten von Eicken, RightScale CTO and co-founder, in a prepared statement. “The RightScale Cloud Appliance for vSphere will offer enterprise developers a cloud-centric way to deploy and manage applications, while allowing VMWare administrators to continue to use familiar vCenter management tools.”
Here are a few highlights of the forthcoming virtual appliance product:
- A single pane of glass for visibility across cloud and vSphere environments.
- The addition of cloud-like capabilities to virtualized environments such as vSphere.
- Self-service features across cloud and virtualized environments.
- The ability to leverage VMware vCenter and RightScale in parallel.
- Portability using dynamic configuration scripts called RightScale ServerTemplates to reduce vendor lock-in.
- Unified reporting and analytics functionality.
- Cross-environmental professional services to help enterprises deploy and optimize application portfolios across vSphere and public and private clouds.
The new product will be available in the first half of 2014.
