New Year, New Career for Some Managed Services Pundits

As 2010 gives way to 2011, some folks in the managed services industry are making career moves. Generally speaking, I think the moves communicate (A) growing interest in the managed services market and (B) an improving economic picture. Here are multiple examples of career changers and what they may be up to...

1. Paul Sponcia Joins CSK Technologies: The Claris Networks veteran has returned to Knoxville, Tenn., as principal and CEO of CSK Technologies. The 10-person MSP focuses on IT projects, managed services and cloud hosting services, according to a note Sponcia sent to me and others today. Sponcia will be working with Chris Kennedy (founder) and Maynard Alvarez to build the company. I'm reaching out to Sponcia for more perspectives.

2. John Holland Joins New England MSP: John Holland, formerly regional VP of sales at SunGard Availability Services in Massachusetts, joined Access Northeast, a New England data center and managed services provider, as VP of sales. We mentioned Holland's career move on MSPmentor last week, but a few readers emailed me today asking if Holland had a new employer. So I figured we'd repost the information here.

3. Jay McBain Leaves Lenovo: The former director of SMB at Lenovo on December 19 disclosed that he's leaving the company. Jay McBain has not publicly discussed his next potential employer. But we're hoping for an official update when time permits. While at Lenovo, McBain helped the company to accelerate a managed services strategy, and he also emerged as a widely quoted expert on pervasive computing.

4. Islands of Opportunity: LIME Caribbean, a telecommunications provider, has named Ian Galt managing director for managed services. Galt previously was executive VP of Caribbean Operations for Fujitsu ICL. Galt will focus on enterprise, corporate and government managed services engagements across the Caribbean.

5. More Moves: Autotask apparently is moving closer to hiring a chief financial officer (CFO). The pending move follows some corner office developments, where founder Bob Godgart shifts to a new Chief Visionary Officer post and Mark Cattini joining as CEO. The moves strive to potentially accelerate Autotask's SaaS business.

We'll keep you posted as more career developments emerge in the managed services sector.
