Management and technology consulting jobs saw a 6.1 percent gain year-over-year in June, representing the highest growth rate among all the IT categories. The data comes from the monthly Bureau of Labor Statistics latest report, and IT job website Dice originally called out the category as one showing strength.

A Dice analysis concludes that consulting jobs are gaining strength because companies are still nervous about hiring full-time workers, something that may not change for a while, particularly due to nervousness about the effects of federal sequestration.

That means the time is ripe for IT managed services companies to approach companies that have delayed hiring decisions. What services do they need? What sorts of skills and certifications are they looking for? And can your firm step in to provide those services, perhaps as a virtual IT department or a virtual CIO.

More quick data for June year over year from the report showed the following:

  • Computer systems design and services jobs up 4.7 percent.

  • Professional and technical services jobs up 2.9 percent

  • Data processing, hosting and services up 1.1. percent.
