Seven Managed Services Blogs MSPmentor Didn't Write: Sept 9

I kept my hands off the keyboard over the weekend. It didn't feel right blogging about the managed services industry at a time when the United States remembered the victims and the heroes of September 11, 2001. So now, after a slight delay, here's a look at seven managed services blogs MSPmentor didn't write for the week ending Sept. 9, 2011.

7. Big Opportunity?: TechSquad is the first MSP based in Wisconsin to promote the InFocus Mondopad. The Mondopad is a 55-inch display that blends video conferencing with a touch screen and collaborative applications. It looks similar to a massive iPad designed for the wall of a conference room. InFocus also designed the Mondopad for MSPs, ensuring that the partner program includes recurring revenue opportunities for IT service providers.

6. Non-stop Support: ConnectWise, as expected, has unveiled 24x7 support for its customer base. The 24x7 support is available every day except for Christmas Day and New Year's Day, the company says.

5. Gathering in Austin: At the IT Expo conference (Austin, Texas, Sept. 13-15), watch for some managed services news to potentially surface at the MSPWorld conference, which is co-located at the event.

4. International Push Continues: Autotask has inked a distribution agreement with ACMEO Cloud Distribution to reach VARs and MSPs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A localized version of Autotask will arrive for Germany later this year. These latest news announcements come only a few days after Autotask announced the opening of an office in the United Kingdom.

3. MVP Requests Answers: Speaking of Autotask, one of the company's community members is seeking more direction now that Autotask Senior VP Jay McBain has left the company. In an open letter to Autotask, Osama M. Faris, president and CEO of FAR Support, asks the company to clarify its community strategy amid McBain's departure. Faris is listed as an Autotask 2011 MVP.

2. Windows 8 Teaser: The Microsoft Build conference is set for Sept. 13-16 in Anaheim, Calif. It's basically a teaser conference for Windows 8. Already, there are signs that Windows 8 will offer fast boot times -- certainly an appealing capability for tablet users. But will MSPs warm up to Windows 8? We're watching.

1. More M&A: Just an educated hunch... but MSPmentor expects another flurry for merger and acquisition activity this week. The news could involve two to six managed services providers. We've confirmed that one deal is brewing but we're looking to zero in on the details. And we've heard substantial rumors about two other potential deals. The moves are in addition to Technology Capital Investors buying Bravura Networks; that deal was confirmed today.
