Zendesk, which develops a cloud-based help desk service, has raised $60 million for global expansion. S0me major cloud services providers (CSP) -- including Box.net, DropBox and Rackspace Cloud -- now leverage Zendesk as their help desk platform. As do numerous managed services providers (MSPs). So what's the lesson here for MSPs?
First, you can still make good money in established markets -- such as help desk services. Build or leverage a great help desk solution to stick close to your customers. Second, you can make great money if you disrupt a sleepy, established market. Help desk services certainly aren't sexy. But offer a new twist -- cloud-based help desk services -- and you can really increase your valuation.

"Zendesk’s monthly recurring revenues have grown nearly 500% since the last financing was completed in November 2010. Over the past 15 months, San Francisco-based Zendesk opened offices in London, Copenhagen, and Melbourne as well as established operations in Tokyo. Today, more than 100 million people in 140 countries get their customer service through Zendesk’s 20,000+ customers."Zendesk's investors include Redpoint Ventures, Index Ventures, GGV Capital, Goldman Sachs, Charles River Ventures, Benchmark Capital and Matrix Partners. In addition, the company has secured a $15 million credit facility through Silicon Valley Bank.
Zendesk plans to use the funding for international growth, hiring and business development.
