RMM software

For today’s managed service providers (MSPs), remote monitoring and management (RMM) software should be considered essential. Whether you’re transitioning from break-fix to managed services in order to build recurring revenue, or taking on more clients and require more visibility, RMM software will help you streamline these processes.

RMM software will give you much-needed visibility into your clients’ hardware, software and network environments. This allows you to to proactively monitor clients’ IT environments and keep you ahead of issues as they occur. You’ll be able to respond faster and offer a better all-around customer experience.

RMM can also be used to automate routine tasks, such as software patching and OS updates. This is particularly important when pushing updates to large batches of machines. Some RMM tools require users to write their own scripts to automate tasks, others come with pre-built customizable scripts, and some feature drag-and-drop style editors that allow users to automate tasks without any scripting knowledge. Others offer a combination of all three.

Today’s RMM tools also fall into two broad categories: cloud-based and on-premises.

●  On-premises RMM: On-prem solutions require hardware investment and maintenance in addition to software licensing fees. And, as the number of endpoints managed scales, performance issues may emerge. However, some MSPs prefer on-prem RMM tools because they offer more control over scripting.

●  Cloud-based RMM: Cloud-based RMMs do not require an on-prem server and can easily scale. Additional benefits of cloud solutions include security, availability and uptime, predictability of costs (monthly payments) and automatic software updates.

If you’ve decided which RMM tool is best for your MSP business and are ready to invest, there are a few things to consider when making your selection. In Datto’s latest eBook, RMM Made MSPeasy, we’re discussing what to consider when choosing your RMM solution. You’ll also find advice from industry-leading MSPs on using RMM to increase operational efficiency and drive revenue.
