Unlocking Real Value of Information: 3 Key Shifts to Consider
Managing data growth is a challenge for any organization, and finding the right storage solution is critical to running smoothly. Aside from infrastructure, there is a clear need to unlock the value of the data being produced in an efficient manner. As your customers’ trusted partner, it is up to you to deliver "right for me" solutions that address these needs.
As we think about solving customers’ biggest information management challenges, we need to shift our approach on how we manage data and what we do with it. Here are three key shifts in how to view data management:
Data ≠ Information
More data ≠ More value
Information > Infrastructure
Data does not equal information: The notion of explosive data growth is no longer hot news–it has become a norm in the IT industry. However, hoarding data does not always translate into valuable insights for the customer. There is a difference between “target rich” data and unnecessary information. It is up to you to provide cutting-edge solutions that enable customers to derive value from their data and gain a competitive advantage.
More data does not equal more value: In fact, it can be quite costly. According to Gartner, it costs $5 million per year to store and manage 1 petabyte of enterprise information. These costs go beyond the storage alone–maintenance, data center costs, labor to manage and back up the data, the risk of losing track of where data is and what it contains, and more. If your customer doesn’t acquire the necessary information management solutions, the result is a functional and governance gap between the data stored and the data needed to make valuable decisions.
Information is greater than infrastructure: From hypervisors to legacy applications to hybrid cloud models, heterogeneous IT environments are everywhere–and so is data. Having the power to tackle fragmented data growth and derive value from information through a unified backup solution will transform organizations.
On its mission to help customers harness the power of their information, Veritas uniquely stitches together data, enables access to it and derives insights from the information to support informed decision-making. In a recent press release, Veritas announced several new products that will lead the way to unlocking the value of information management solutions. These products include NetBackup 7.7, Veritas Resiliency Platform, InfoScale, Data Insight 5.0 and Information Map.
