Getting the Most Out of Lenovo’s Latest 1U Rack Server

By Lenovo Guest Blog 2

In the six years since Lenovo launched its ThinkServer line, the business has gained momentum and grown exponentially. We’ve invested heavily in R&D and continue to aggressively attack the global enterprise opportunity, including storage, server, networking, and related software and services.

As part of that effort, Lenovo has continued to round out its ThinkServer portfolio. Recently Lenovo introduced the ThinkServer RS140—a versatile 1U rack server that adapts to two- and four-post racks.

There are a number of ways Lenovo partners can leverage the RS140 to sell into customers given the system's unique combination of size, performance and features. In fact, we think when customers compare the RS140 to similar competitor products in the same category, the value proposition will be clear.

Because of its small chassis, the RS140 can be deployed almost anywhere, including beneath countertops and other spaces one may not have been able to place rack servers before. As a 1U system, the RS140 is ideal for distributed enterprise environments, such as franchises and retail locations, that need true server computing power at an affordable price—to manage that particular branch and/or share data with other locations.

Another ideal job for the RS140 is around the data center edge. Given the RS140’s seamless integration, computing power and affordable price, businesses can use the system as an appliance in the data center for applications such as firewalls and print servers.

For even greater adaptability, the RS140 has up to 4TB of 2.5-inch HDDs for multiple storage configurations, Gold-rated power efficiency, free EasyStartup and EasyUpdate deployment utility, as well as support for both Windows 7 and 8 operating systems and their legacy applications. In addition, the RS140 can be seamlessly integrated into data center infrastructures that are not dominated by Lenovo’s products, with integrated VMware-enabled Ethernet ports and integrated management ports.

With this level of versatility, we hope our partners (and their customers) will think differently about how the RS140 can help support business operations, from small to large businesses. What are some other use case scenarios that your customers are coming to you for help with?
