For MSPs, What’s the Antonym of Technology Downtime?

Look, I know you’re all IT people. You like bits and bytes, speeds and feeds. But if English majors have to learn enough math to balance their checkbooks, IT folks should learn enough grammar to be able to answer the following question: What’s the antonym to downtime? I’ll give you a clue – it’s something every person who uses technology hopes for.

It’s uptime!

We usually talk more about downtime than uptime. That’s because PC downtime is lost productivity – every time. And as an MSP, delivering demonstrably higher PC uptime to your SMB customers is a competitive differentiator. It also helps your bottom line because it means fewer truck rolls, lower PC management costs, and lower maintenance costs.

You know what I’m going to say increases uptime: PCs with Intel vPro technology. I’ve said it all year here and I’ll say it again; not only does Intel vPro technology mean less PC downtime for your customers, but it also significantly reduces your cost (and sometimes, the hassle) of delivering PC management and maintenance services. Using your existing management console and PCs featuring Intel vPro technology, you can save $50-$225 on every trouble ticket1. In fact, by using vPro technology-enabled PCs, MSP IT Authorities increased their remote remediation to over 95%.

Jeff Wieler, VP of Service Operations at MSP Do IT Smarter puts it this way, “Reducing downtime allows the reseller to focus his resources on higher-value activities. Less fire-fighting means more projects and more project revenue for the reseller.”

Of course, you’re really bringing value to your customer, too – and giving them a strong incentive to upgrade their older systems. “Customers realize that when a PC is down, that employee cannot do business,” says Jay Muraglia, president of Base 2 Digital. “With vPro, we’ve reduced the average downtime for a PC from 4 hours per month to 15 minutes.”

Jason Ryals, IT Manager at MSP Speros says, “The end users enjoy not having to wait while we work on their system—or even get to their system, since some of our clients are an hour and a half away. Fixing problems more quickly means we’re helping the customer make more money and save on the cost of repairs.”
