A few days ago Cisco Systems announced a significant milestone in our Unified Computing System (UCS) program – we announced that we had just shipped to our 10,000th UCS customer.  It’s a pretty amazing feat as in just over two years of designing, manufacturing, and shipping our own Intel-based server line we’ve established ourselves in the Datacenter compute market with an award winning, innovative, and game changing portfolio offering.

Many of you are probably already Cisco partners selling and supporting our networking, communication, and collaboration solutions. UCS affords you an excellent opportunity as well that can extend your reach further into your accounts. The innovative technology that you have come to expect from Cisco is apparent as well in our UCS family. Leveraging distinct UCS features such as Extended Memory, Unified Fabric, Stateless Computing, and Unified Management afford you the opportunity to deliver agile, efficient, and simplified datacenter architectures to your clients.

Here’s a sampling of quotes from customers on how UCS is enabling them to deliver world-class services:

Wes Wright, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Seattle Children’s:

“Feedback from our clinical users has been overwhelmingly positive. They can walk into a patient’s room and within seconds access all their information—it’s much more efficient and provides more time for patient and provider interaction.”  Denali Advanced Integration helped Seattle Children’s to deploy a solution with Citrix XenDesktop® hosted on Cisco UCS to centralize information and applications in the data center. The solution greatly improved application performance, increased scalability (up to 120 users per server blade with no performance degradation,) and eliminated service outages due to incompatible components.

David Hayes, Senior Director, Microsoft Partner Solutions Center:

“With the upcoming releases of System Center 2012 and Microsoft Windows 8 it is vital that the equipment we intend to put into data centers delivers the best performance and value. Cisco will play a significant role in keeping our data center on the cutting edge of technology.”

Dan Hein, Director, Global Shared Services, Columbia Sportswear:

“The integration of compute, network, and storage into a single stack is transforming the way we, as IT professionals, view these environments. We anticipate a significant reduction in the overhead required to manage the Vblock platform environment, because we’ve taken three separate disciplines and combined them into one. Because Vblock is preconfigured and pretested by VCE, we can move forward with our SAP deployment quickly and with confidence that the infrastructure will deliver the robust performance and availability we need out of the gate.”

Growing Ecosystem

From these customer quotes you can see the breath of ecosystems UCS touches and the opportunities in front of you. UCS provides an optimal application platform for SAP, Microsoft, and Oracle environments. In the world of virtualization and private cloud, be it Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft Hyper-V, or VMware and Vblock, UCS provides a platform that drives efficiencies in OpEx and CapEx budgets.
