Spanning Cloud Apps, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) backup and recovery solutions provider, is now a Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) partner. According to a statement, Spanning is joining CSA to provide expert insight on backup and recovery best practices and help companies understand the importance of taking a proactive approach to monitoring their data stored in cloud applications.

CSA is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the use of best practices for providing cloud security. In addition, this alliance provides education on the uses of cloud computing.

Spanning will contribute to the CSA Cloud Controls Matrix (CCM), which is designed to provide fundamental security principles to guide cloud vendors and assist prospective cloud customers in assessing the overall security risk of a cloud provider. The CSA CCM also provides a controls framework that describes security concepts and principles that are aligned to the CSA’s guidance in 13 domains.

Spanning VP of Engineering Mike Pav commented on the announcement in a press release:
