Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff founded the company in 1999 to develop an information management service that would replace traditional enterprise software technology. Now that organization is jumping into mobile with both feet.

Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM) has unveiled Salesforce Platform Mobile Services, a new set of tools for app developers designed to make it easy to create secure mobile apps to access their company's Salesforce.com data. Talkin' Cloud discussed the new toolkit with Scott Holden, platform VP and Matthew Baier, platform marketing senior director. Here are the details

Salesforce.com created the toolkit to help accelerate the mobile app development process. The offering includes the following features:

  • Salesforce Mobile SDK 2.0—The project is open source and enables developers to securely connect data to any mobile app, native, hybrid or HTML, on any iOS or Android device. The SDK will also allow HTML5-based apps to leverage device features such as the camera and geolocation, and provides additional libraries for key enterprise requirements such as authentication and secure offline storage;

  • Developer Mobile Packs—These  packs enable web developers to build HTML5 or hybrid mobile apps on any platform and access real-time Salesforce data. Mobile Packs leverage the massively scalable and trusted Salesforce Platform REST APIs through a choice of popular, lightweight JavaScript frameworks—AngularJS, Backbone.js and jQuery Mobile—to offer greater development flexibility and deliver amazing data-centric mobile experiences.

Holden said the combination of Salesforce Mobile SDK 2.0 and Developer Mobile Packs will "condense code-writing time by 90 percent."

"We're combining the best of mobile frameworks," he said. "It's all focused on the app."

The company also launched its Salesforce Mobile Accelerator Program for consulting and deployment providers, which is being launched with various system integrators, including, Accenture, Bluewolf, Detroit Labs and Tquila.

Salesforce will conduct training across the globe, which will include a standard set of curriculum, including developing apps for specific industries, and provide certifications to build the state-of-the-art mobile apps.

Developer Mobile Packs are available today on the company's website, and Salesforce Mobile SDK 2.0 will be available in June 2013.
