Rackspace Expands its List of Security Credentials

Open cloud computing company Rackspace Hosting (NYSE: RAX) recently announced it has achieved global security certifications and compliance verifications for Service Organization Controls SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3. These certifications are in addition to complying with the ISO 27001 standard, covering a broad range of security controls.

According to the company, these certifications uphold Rackspace's IT infrastructure to the most stringent security requirements, staying closely aligned with the latest industry standards and best practices:

  • SOC 2 Report—developed for the assessment of security, availability, privacy, confidentiality and integrity processes. These reports assist customers with understanding Rackspace's service and its internal controls.

  • SOC 3 Report—designed to meet the needs of users who want assurance on the controls at a service organization related to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality or privacy, but do not have the credentials or access to view the SOC 2 Report.

  • ISO 27001 certification—provided to businesses that adapt to its management system requirements. The certification covers security control within a data center, ranging from the physical environment in which customer solutions are hosted, accessed, and monitored, to the logical system-based controls employed to manage access. Rackspace has received this certification in all of its U.S., U.K. and Hong Kong data centers.

"At Rackspace, we want to provide peace of mind to customers," said Rackspace CSO John Lionato. "We know we are an integral part of keeping mission-critical workloads secure and running well. Achieving industry standards and certifications is part of how we fanatically serve our customers."

In addition, to the above certifications, Rackspace also holds the following standards and certifications: ISO 14001 (UK), BSOHSAS 18001 (UK), ISO9001 (UK Enterprise and Support Functions), Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) Level 1 Service Provider, SafeHarbor and Content Protection And Security (CPS) Standard.
