Quorum Vice President of Products Kemal Balioglu says the company's backup can perform as either agent-based or agentless.

Quorum’s newest solution is designed to bring a new kind of protection to customers — agentless disaster recovery.

The San Jose, California cloud-based disaster recovery-as-a-service (DRaaS) solutions company on Tuesday announced the general availability of Quorum onQ v3.8. Included in the release is a list of new features and enhancements.

New features available to customers include: enhanced reporting; recovery node; protected node configuration log; multinetwork and VLAN support for recovery nodes; and bare metal restore (BMR) improvements.

Quorum Vice President of Products Kemal Balioglu told Talkin’ Cloud that the point of “backup is to make sure the data is available and delays in restoring the data are acceptable.”

“In this case, the main challenge is to be able to execute the backup within the backup window and the ability to reliably restore the data when it is needed,” he said.

He added: “However, as backup plays an integral part in ensuring disaster recovery and business continuity, the additional — even more difficult — challenge is to ensure that the systems and the corresponding data is available reliably and as soon as possible.”

Current Quorum customers can upgrade to onQ v3.8 at no additional cost.

Quorum’s quest for a new long-term CEO came to an end in May when it appointed Edward Sharp, a former NetApp (NTAP) executive, as its permanent CEO.

The company has raised a total of $38.8 million to date. This includes a $10 million Series C funding round in November 2013.
