IBM, Twitter Announce Cloud Data Services
Business professionals now can leverage IBM (IBM) cloud data services to isolate Twitter (TWTR) data and use it to “uncover powerful correlations that drive more actionable insights.”
IBM and Twitter today unveiled cloud data services that allow business professionals and developers to extract business analytics from Twitter data.
So what do the new cloud data services offer? Glenn Finch, IBM Global Business Services‘ global leader of big data and analytics, said the new IBM cloud data services ultimately will help businesses and developers “tap into billions of real-time conversations to make smarter decisions.”
“Through unique expertise, curation and insights, Twitter data is now able to inform decision-making far inside organizations,” he said in a prepared statement.
IBM noted that its new cloud data services will allow businesses and developers to:
- Create new apps — IBM’s Insights for Twitter service on Bluemix enables users to search, explore and mine Twitter data and incorporate it into new apps.
- Merge predictive analytics with Twitter data — With IBM Watson Analytics, business professionals can use Twitter data to identify and explain hidden patterns and relationships and make research-based predictions about why things happen and what’s about to happen.
- Analyze Twitter data faster — Users can take advantage of BigInsights on Cloud cluster configurations that are pre-configured with access to Twitter content to analyze Twitter data faster than ever before.
More than 4,000 IBM professionals currently have access to Twitter data and are trained to enhance this information with analytics capabilities from IBM industry solutions and cloud services, according to IBM.

IBM and Twitter originally announced their partnership last October. The alliance focuses on three areas:
- Integration of Twitter data with IBM analytics services on the cloud.
- Development of data-intensive capabilities for the enterprise.
- Specialized enterprise consulting.
IBM CEO Ginni Rometty said the IBM-Twitter partnership would help customers “enrich business decisions with an entirely new class of data.” She also pointed out that the alliance reflected her company’s commitment to “reimagining work.”
