HP Helion Rack: Here’s What You Need to Know
Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) has added a new solution to its HP Helion portfolio that could help enterprises with removing the barriers to deploying and managing OpenStack-based private clouds. The cloud computing giant on Tuesday unveiled HP Helion Rack, a private cloud solution based on OpenStack and Cloud Foundry technologies integrated with HP server hardware.
HP Helion Rack features infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) capabilities, HP said, and provides a platform for developing, designing and deploying cloud native applications.
“Enterprise customers are asking for private clouds that meet their security, reliability and performance requirements, while also providing the openness, flexibility and fast time-to-value they require,” Bill Hilf, HP Helion’s senior vice president of product management, said in a prepared statement. “HP Helion Rack offers an enterprise-class private cloud solution with integrated application lifecycle management.”
HP said its new private cloud solution offers:
- Access to integrated application services.
- Flexible workload infrastructure.
- Open architecture.
Hilf noted that HP Helion Rack gives enterprises “the simplified cloud experience they want, with the control and performance they need.”

HP Helion Rack will be available next month, HP said, and pricing will vary by configuration.
So what does HP Helion Rack mean for HP channel partners? An HP spokesperson told Talkin’ Cloud that HP Helion Rack “offers partners the opportunity to differentiate themselves by meeting customer needs faster with a proven, complete OpenStack technology private cloud solution that also leverages their HP infrastructure expertise.”
In addition, the spokesperson said HP Helion Rack provides partners with “a strong ecosystem for customers to leverage for support in onboarding cloud services.”
HP continues to explore new ways to support its channel partners as well. For example, HP last week announced the HP Navigator and HP AllianceOne Partner programs at its Global Partner Conference in Las Vegas. Both programs were designed to help current HP partners prepare for the company’s split into HP Enterprise and HP Inc. in November.
